Week #8

All students need to have their sketch books with them everyday.

Students will begin their master copy unit by choosing 1 of 4 paintings and completing  a series of sketches.  The master copy assignment will lead into students generating their own self portraits,   Check out this Master Copy  link.

Week # 7

Essential questions- “How do artists use the elements of art to convey meaning? How does gesture get represented in drawing?”

1st period needs to finish their zen doodle and get them up on the wall. Then they will need to complete a value study in charcoal.

4th and 6th period will move on into Line assignments. There are 5 drawing, each practice drawing should take approximately 15- 20 minutes with the 5th and final taking longer.

Week #6 – Welcome 1st Period! Doodle and Line Assignment

Welcome 1st Period! We are now running a 1, 4, 6 in room 306.  You will need a Sketchbook and at least a Pencil Everyday! There is a weekly participation and organization grade (you need to be on task,  off your phones, polite, etc. . . )

Those of you who have 4th and 6th and discovered a low grade you are likely missing you pencil value sketch- These need to be placed in your portfolio.  Find your grades here –

Learning Objectives: Students will move from value studies into explorations of lines.  Students will finish their Zen doodling excercise and begin to incorporate  doodling into their sketchbook.

Week #4 – Right Brain? Sketch Book – Continue Value Studies

We will take a detour from value studies to talk about seeing and creativity. We will be doing some sketchbook exercises from the right side of the brain.  With cats of course.  And then continue with our value study.

Lesson Description: Students will generate a series of drawings that demonstrate the use of value with graphite, charcoal, and fine point pen.

1, Students will complete a value scale worksheet, complete a sketch and drawing of their own design along with value scale demonstrations using graphite pencil,

2. Complete a sketch and a drawing of a shape (still life) that is appropriately shaded with charcoal,

3. Complete a sketch and a drawing (still life) that is appropriately shaded using a fine point pen (sharpie.)
